Music Equipment Grants

Minister Merlino at the launch of the Music Equipment GrantsAre you trying to start a band or work on your music skills? Is the cost of equipment holding you back or practice space limited?

Now, in addition to the FReeZA and FReeZACentral programs, the Victorian Government is supporting aspiring young musicians in Victoria through the Music Equipment Grants (MEG) funding program. The program makes $10,000 worth of musical equipment available for use by local musicians through local councils.

The Central Goldfields Shire is one the first local councils to received the funding under the $1.3 million program which has been announced by Youth Affairs Minister James Merlino.

With the MEG money, the Central Goldfields Shire will be purchasing a PA system, acoustic, electric and bass guitars, a keyboard, synthesiser, microphone stands and a practice pad drum kit. The Shire is also working with MEG funded Macedon Ranges and Mount Alexander Shire’s, to coordinate and share equipment among interested musicians across the region.

Councils who receive MEG funding are working out with local musicians where you can access the equipment to rehearse and perform in partnership with the Victoria Rocks - A Place to Rock initiative which encourages local communities to promote the creative endeavours of young people through partnerships and resources.

The first 26 local government areas to benefit from the MEG funding program include: Glenelg; Greater Geelong; Moyne Shire; Warrnambool; Yarra Ranges; Latrobe; Horsham; Alpine; Yarra; Cardinia; Greater Dandenong; Mornington Peninsula; Port Phillip; Maribyrnong; Melbourne; Melton; Brimbank; Campaspe; Central Goldfields; Mount Alexander; Macedon Ranges; Knox; Whittlesea; Banyule; Nillumbik; and Wodonga.

The Music Equipment grants are still open for Victorian councils to submit an expression of interest to establish a music equipment bank so get in touch with your local council to see how you can get access the music equipment and participate in the program. It is a great opportunity to explore and promote your talents to your local community.
