Arts & Music Reporter
Summarising yourself can be quite the challenge. So many things make up who we are. But if there is one piece to the puzzle that is me that best defines my character, it’s my love of music. When I hear great songs and discover amazing musicians, I some how go on the journey with them. Music has the power to manipulate our thoughts and feelings like nothing else, which is why attending gigs, whether they are big or small, is one of my favourite things to do. Not only do I hear the music loud, but it comes to life.
Going that next step and interviewing bands gives you the opportunity to discover the personalities behind the music you admire as well as finding new bands to follow.
I have had the opportunity to review and interview some great bands for a number of websites, while completing my Diploma in Professional Writing and Editing. Hopefully there will be many more people to meet and experiences to come from writing as the Arts and Music Reporter.
I’m passionate about promoting Australian musicians (and other talented people for that matter) and to ride the highs and lows that go with that. It can be devastating walking into a rather empty room at a gig when your had hoped for so much more for a band and frustrating trying to convince people to give something a listen. These strong emotions help me understand how involved I am in music and that I’m working towards something I feel strongly about.
Again, there are so many bands that I think are incredible and I’m continually adding to the list. But one name that will remain timeless is Rob Thomas and his band Matchbox Twenty. He taught me why I love music and I’ll be singing their songs forever.
If I’m not at a gig, writing an article, promoting something on MySpace or trying to convince a friend to come to the next exciting event, you’ll find me at the footy. I support the Brisbane Lions after barracking for Fitzroy as a kid. I love feeling part of a team and there is so much pride in AFL football. The 2003 Grand Final was a day I won’t forget. I can still hear the Lions chant echoing throughout the stadium. If I don’t end up in the music industry in some capacity or become a full-time journalist, I’d love to dig deeper into the inner sanctum of the Brisbane Lions or the AFL in general.
I’m a curious one and always in search of a good time. I look forward to meeting new people and sharing more stories. I hope you enjoy the content created by me as the new Arts and Music Reporter.
I think that really is enough about me. Time to get started on finding some more great bands out there ……
Let’s rock Victoria!
