All of our crew members have a passion for music and for running events

Bio - Our crew, Push Wamy, is one of the longest running FReeZA crews around. We have been part of the program for around 15 years now and have staged a huge range of events for young people in that time. We have a kick off at the end of each year and new members as well as past crew go through a selection process. Our aim is to provide a range of events for young people and to provide opportunities for our young people to display their talents.

Crew – Our committee currently consists of 16 young people, both male and female, aged 14-18 years. Our crew members this year are not all music nuts, some are passionate about the arts but mainly they are committed to providing opportunities for young people in their community. Mostly we try to have fun and make sure that comes across in our events. We run small and large events and this year we are trying to branch out into areas such as a jazz night and art workshops/festival.

Events – Wodonga FReeZA is known for running well organised and attended events in our community. We also link in with larger community events via our events team at council.

Highlights - Over the years there have been a number of outstanding events held here in Wodonga. We have been lucky enough to have bands such as Karnivool, The Cat Empire, Butterfly Effect, Bliss n Eso, Cog, Carpathian and we are very excited to be having a huge bill coming up soon that features Behind Crimson Eyes, Calling All Cars, The Galvatrons and Red Ink along with a local band Master Tang. Beside the huge gigs we have also been lucky enough to have some of our crew become part of the FReeZA mentor programs and roving reporters for FReeZACentral. It has also been great to see some of our previous crew members running their own events and studying further in the area of Event Management. Battle of the bands is always an absolute highlight with so much talent amongst our young people. Local band Demonic Tempest was the latest to make their way through to the Melbourne Push Start event.

Community Support – Our events are supported by our local music shops, Billy Hyde Hi Fidelity and Megas Music, as well as organisations such as the SES.

Biography - Our committee is made up of around 15 young people and has been running for around 6 years. Our philosophy is just to provide good quality events that young people in our community want to be a part of.

Crew - Our crew's ages are spread from 15 through to 21 and at the moment the Wangaratta scene is hardcore music with an alternative of acoustic music in outdoor parks just to mix it up a little.

Events - Simplicity really. A good venue with free water and a free cloak room with good quality sound and an experienced security service who understand how FReeZA works and help us to keep everyone safe and keep the night enjoyable.

Highlights - Our Highlight in 2008 and was the Goodbye Tour for I Killed The Prom Queen, which saw us pack out 400 young people to watch them with supports Bring Me The Horizon and The Red Shore. It was a huge event which saw our committee working hard and delivering an event that was incident free and helped raise the profile of Wang FReeZA

Benefits - It's an opportunity for young people to involved in putting on shows that are exciting and relevant to our community. It gives us options to have things to do and not to have to travel to Melbourne to see a music show.

Advice - Preparation, patience and a well briefed security crew. Also having young people take ownership over their event helps to avoid incidents because young people don’t want to loose the things they have worked hard for.

Community Support - We have good support from Wangaratta Disclocation our local Leading Edge Music store.

These events provide opportunities for young peoplle in our area to have a really good night.

Bio – The Lakers FReeZA committee formed in October 2006, with the intention to provide an outlet for local youth as they had no youth programs available. The FReeZA program attracted 15 youth who met weekly to organize their events, In the first meeting they decided that they wanted to run a battle of the bands to promote local youth bands and ensure that punters would attend the event. The event was such a success that the committee philosophy of promoting local youth talent has remained the largest focus.

Crew – The committee is made up of an even group of girls and boys and we have 10 dedicated youth with a number of other kids who pop in.

Events – FReeZA events provide a space for youth to meet people and socialize in a community that sees its youth leave the mountain to attend over 20 secondary schools with three core secondary schools. These events provide opportunities for our youth to have something to expect. Now that we have run two events both an indoor and out door, the expectation seems to be a really good night.

Community Support –Mason White McDougal provide publicity signs for the events, Mitre Ten door prize, volunteers drive truck[youth stage] Fin Star productions provided the truck, CFA fire extinguishers and help with the bogged truck, lots of volunteers such as judges.

Defrosters
Strathbogie Shire Council, Euroa

Fun, organised events and great music!

Charlene Ham
Ph:  03 5795 2555

Bio - The FReeZA program has been running for a number of years in the Strathbogie Shire. In recent years, events have predominantly been held in Euroa, which is the central and largest town in the Shire. The Derfosters FReeZA Committee meet on Tuesday evenings at the Eclipse Café, to share ideas (and food!) and to plan events for young people in our shire. As the entire Strathbogie Shire is rurally isolated, a big focus is placed on accessibility. Young people are transported home each week after Committee meetings, and a free bus is provided to and from each FReeZA event throughout the year.

Crew –  Our FReeZA crew is new this year,as many moved on to new schools last year. The new crew is made up of young people who are interested in music industry and keen to put on great events for young people in the shire. Each have different interests, Cody is great at poster design, and loves working behind thwe senes at events. Emma is a talented singer, and interested in performance events. Damo plays bass guitar and studies music industry at school. Angie likes being part of the committee because she can hang out with others whohave similar interests. Pat plays guitar for his band and has been volunteering at events before but is now part of the committee. Jodie and Keely are great at coming up with ideas and love working at events, seeing their mates enjoying the finished product of their hard work.

Events – Fun, organised events and great music!

Highlights - We always love PUSH Battle of the Bands Heats, and our Graffiti Art and African Drumming workshop earlier this year was great because it was different to our usual music events and everyone loved participating. We get asked all the time if we can do it again!

Benefits - FReeZA in the Strathbige Shire Council means that young people from all across the shire can get together at a safe venue and have heaps of fun. The shire is made up of many small towns, and without FReeZA, young people would have less chance to catch up outside school

Advice - Being ultra organised and confirming everything, you have got to relax on the night though and not get stressed, just enjoy it!

Community Support –  Our local SES, Showgrounds Committee, Primary and Secondary Schools and Cinema support the FReeZA program, as well as many wonderful volunteers throughout the community.
