2011 has been a huge year with lots of positive change. A recruitment drive in January has seen five new members with Brody, Jordan, Ivana and Sammy also returning for another action packed year. We have established a Facebook page called MYCentre Mildura, which we use to promote all our events. This has proven to very popular. We have reviewed our committee's Terms of reference and our objectives, being "to empower and support young people to plan and deliver events in the Mildura Rural City Council Municipality".


We are currently advertising for a new FReeZA Project Officer, hopefully this Project Officer be on board soon to start work on Push Start Regional Battle of the Bands. Barbara has been helping the committee out since April. We have a total of eleven committee members, our meetings are held at MYCentre 48 Twelfth Street Mildura, call 5018 8280 for more information.

Our Partnership

Mildura FReeZA has been working in partnership with SuniTAFE Event Management students to host and revamp this years National Youth Week event "The Grind" BMX, Skateboard and Scooter Competition, we had local demo riders showing off this amazing skills. This was a huge success and looking forward to doing it again next year. The SuniTAFE students did an amazing job in planning and on the day.

For the last 12 months we have been working with Victoria Police stationed in Mildura to assist with four Blue Light Discos for young people aged 10 - 14 years. Each discos attracts almost 400 young people, our committee members help out with stage management, public announcements, OHS checklist, dancing? (Brody & Jordan’s have been known to provide stage demos) and it’s a great opportunity to work with our local police members.

Due to the success of Battle of the Bands we sourced some additional funding from Northern Mallee Primary Care Partnership and worked with the Drug Treatment Team from Sunraysia Community Health Services to host Battle of the Bands Encore as part of Drug Action Week, we had another big crowd of 250 and a total of 26 performers on the night.

A group of nine local guys, aged 17 - 20 years have just started the Certificate III Events being delivered by SuniTAFE. This qualification provides skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in operational support events. This team will undertake practical volunteer support for the Country Music Festival and our Push Start Regional Battle of the Bands. Some of the guys are from Bands that competed in April competition

We have started exploring some ideas with Sunraysia Musicians Club Inc about developing regular monthly Jam Sessions… stay turned for more on this initiative.


Battle of the Bands held under the stars at The Nowingi Place Mildura on 15 April, had 5 bands performances and over 300 young people and community members come along to support the session. Hally where the winners are now will be completing in the Regional Final to be held on 12 November 2011 in Mildura. We are looking forward to hosting this event for the first time since 2007.
